Arabic WordPress themes:
look for RTL, not "Arabic".
The biggest waste of time for Arabic site owners is picking from a short "Arabic themes" list, when the correct criterion is a technical property that opens the entire library.
There is no such thing as an "Arabic theme". There are themes with RTL support.
Right-to-left support is a technical property, not a language identity. A theme that ships an rtl.css file works for your Arabic site even if it was designed in Japan — and WordPress loads that file automatically when your site's language is right-to-left, with no configuration from you.
The practical consequence: instead of choosing from twenty themes labelled "Arabic", choose from the thousands that support RTL. There is one criterion and it is verifiable in about 30 seconds — the next section shows how.
The reverse matters more, though: a theme advertising "Arabic support" with no RTL stylesheet will look broken — alignment reversed, spacing on the wrong side, columns flipped.

How do you verify a theme really supports RTL?
Three steps, and you do not need to be a developer:
- Filter by the rtl tag in the official theme directory on WordPress.org. The tag exists and is recognised, and it is the fastest filter.
- Switch your site language first, then preview. A preview in English tells you nothing about RTL.
- Confirm the theme ships rtl.css or style-rtl.css in its files. That file is the actual evidence; the theme description is just a claim.
For a faster check: load your site in Arabic and look at the menus, buttons and blockquotes. Those break first in a theme without RTL support, because they depend on float and margin on a specific side.
What has to be mirrored in an RTL theme?
RTL support is more than direction: rtl on the page. A good theme also mirrors:
- float and clear — swapped between right and left
- Text alignment (text-align)
- Margins and padding
- Borders and background-position
- Positioning — the right and left properties
That is why you see themes that "support Arabic" in shape but whose arrow icon points the wrong way, or where the gap between an image and its text looks unbalanced. Those properties were never mirrored.
Free or paid?
Start free, always. Themes in the official directory pass review before publication, and plenty are entirely adequate for a company site, a blog or a portfolio. There is no technical reason a paid theme is faster or better for SEO by virtue of costing money.
A paid theme buys you two specific things: wider customisation and support to ask when something breaks. So pay when you hit a limit you need past — not before, and not because the demo looks nice.
Do not install a nulled theme
A commercial theme redistributed "free" outside official channels is a security problem, not a bargain. Three reasons:
- Injected code — the edit that removed the licence check may have added something else you will not see.
- No security updates — a vulnerability patched upstream stays open on your site permanently.
- No support — and you need it most, because you are running a modified build nobody recognises.
The money saved is small against the cost of a compromised site: cleanup, lost trust, and the possibility of your domain landing on blocklists. Not worth it.
Themes and site speed
Your theme is one of the two biggest influences on site speed; the other is hosting. A theme loaded with components, fonts and animations you never use adds weight to every visit.
Worth stating plainly: a light theme on average hosting is faster than a heavy theme on excellent hosting. So do not buy a more expensive plan to compensate for a badly chosen theme — change the theme. How to measure the difference, and the order to fix in, is in our speed guide.

- Set your site language in WordPress settings before anything else.
- Open the official directory and filter by the rtl tag.
- Preview candidates in Arabic and look at menus and buttons first.
- Check for the rtl.css file — the evidence, not the description.
- Test speed after installing and before adding content, so you know your baseline.
- Do not keep more than one theme installed. Unused themes remain an attack surface.
